It's already been a week since we said goodbye to Michael G. Smith and a group of energetic spirits who participated in the Cob & Natural Building workshop. This was our second year hosting this workshop with Michael and the energy was just as infectious.
It felt great to start working with cob again. We focused on three areas of the house. The first was the space underneath the bench that will surround our dining table. We decided to cob the portion of the wall that won't be seen and the rest of the wall will be cordwood.
We also started cobbing an internal wall that will separate the pantry from the tub room. Here is that wall getting started on June 24th.
And here is the progress made the next day.
We actually had a couple days with some rain during the workshop so the walls were drying slowly. We got a little higher that week and here is the wall on July 6th.
The third spot we started cobbing is below the south facing windows in the living room. This wall is just getting 8-10 inches of cob.
We have a good first course done and will need to lay a final precise layer soon.
